Deputy Consul General Ren Faqiang delivering remarks

Deputy Consul General Ren Faqiang remarked that 150 years ago, about 12 thousand Chinese were recruited into America's railroad construction. Some of them died from extremely harsh weather and hazardous working conditions. Their contributions to America's national unification and economic development is beyond measure. Chinese railroad workers and their descendents in America are the pioneers for the people-to-people exchanges and friendship between China and the U.S. They played an active role in supporting China Xinhai Revolution, Anti-Japanese Aggression War, normalization of China-U.S. relations and China-US friendly exchanges and cooperation.

Ren appraised Center for East Asian Studies and Chinese Railroad Workers in North America Project at Stanford University for their efforts to research and introduce Chinese railroad workers history and promote the mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese people and American people.
