Hu Jintao Leaves for Home after APEC Meeting

Chinese President Hu Jintao attends the 2009 APEC CEO Summit in Singapore and delivers an important speech entitled Consolidating Confidence in Cooperation to Rejuvenate World Economy

On November 15, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao left for home after attending the Economic Leaders Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Singapore.

Hu arrived in Singapore on November 11 for a state visit to this Southeast Asian nation. After his visit, Hu attended the Economic Leaders Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Singapore from Nov. 14 to 15.

At the meeting, President Hu delivered an important speech on joining efforts to meet challenges and sustain growth, and elaborated on the topic of supporting the multilateral trading system. Hu expounded China's proposition on the world financial crisis, climate change, anti-protectionism, multilateral trading system, regional economic integration and the future of APEC.

Hu also delivered an important speech entitled Consolidating Confidence in Cooperation to Rejuvenate World Economy at the APEC CEO summit, introducing China's policy measures against the global financial crisis and elaborating China's proposals on enhancing cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, sustaining growth and rejuvenating world economy. "To ensure long-term development of the world economy, we must adopt a multi-pronged approach and promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, regional economic integration, international financial system reform and transfer of economic growth pattern," said Hu. He also called for joint efforts to effectively address the underlying structural problems in the world economy, to turn the crisis into opportunities and lay a solid foundation for a full recovery of the world economy.

During his visit to Singapore, the Chinese president met with Singaporean President S. R. Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Gok Chok Tong, exchanging in-depth views with them on furthering China-Singapore relations.

The Chinese president said during his meeting with Nathan that next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries. China was ready to provide Singapore with a pair of pandas for joint research in a bid to further enhance the friendly ties between the two nations. Hu emphasized that human resources were a key area of bilateral cooperation, to which both sides have always paid great attention. Strengthening exchanges between youths of both countries was conducive to the long-term and stable growth of bilateral ties, he said.

Before his visit to Singapore, President Hu had paid a state visit to Malaysia.
