On November 9, 2009, a photo exhibition on the achievements of the follow-up actions of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) opened at China Millennium Monument, Beijing. Officials including Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang, Executive Vice Mayor of Beijing Municipality Ji Lin and Sierra Leone Ambassador to China Abdul Karim Koroma attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Addressing the opening ceremony, Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang said the Beijing Summit & the Third Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was successfully held in November 2006. During the meeting, Chinese and African leaders agreed to establish a new type of China-Africa strategic partnership and President Hu announced the eight measures of the Chinese government on pragmatic cooperation with Africa. Over the past three years, the follow-up actions of the Beijing Summit have achieved fruitful outcome with the joint efforts of both sides. Both sides have continuously built up political trust, deepened trade cooperation of mutual benefit and further expanded the scale of exchanges and cooperation on culture, education and health. The fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held yesterday in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Premier Wen Jiabao, on behalf of the Chinese government, announced eight new measures on China-Africa practical cooperation in the next three years. These measures not only cover the traditional areas of China-Africa cooperation, but also have some breakthroughs and innovations, reflecting both sides' resolve of joining hands to cope with current major global challenges. It is believed that these new measures will be implemented completely, bringing tangible benefits to Chinese and African people and injecting new impetus into the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership. After delivering speeches, Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang, Executive Vice Mayor Ji Lin and Ambassador Koroma together cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony and visited the photo exhibition. The exhibition was held in collaboration with the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and it was organized by Beijing Municipality. About 100 people including responsible officials from member agencies of the Chinese Follow-Up Committee of FOCAC such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, diplomats of African countries in China, as well as representatives from African students in China attended the opening ceremony. |
