On November 11, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao ended his visit to Malaysia and left Kuala Lumpur for his state visit to Singapore and the Economic Leaders Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). During his visit to Malaysia, President Hu met with Malaysian Supreme Head of State Mizan Zainal Abidin and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, exchanging in-depth views on bilateral ties. During his meeting with Mizan, Hu pointed out that the China-Malaysia relationship is now at an important stage of opening up the future and faces a new opportunity for further development. Hu said that when profound and complicated changes had taken place in the region and consequences of the international financial crisis were still keenly felt, expanding strategic cooperation between China and Malaysia is not only in the common interests of both countries, but also conducive to regional stability and prosperity. Hu said China attaches great importance to the development of its relations with Malaysia, and is ready to work together with Malaysia to lift bilateral friendly cooperation to higher stages. The leaders of both countries expressed satisfaction with the good momentum in the development of bilateral ties, saying they were ready to work together to further deepen China-Malaysia cooperation for the benefit of their peoples and to make a greater contribution to peace and development in the region. Hu arrived in Kuala Lumpur on the afternoon of November 10 for a state visit to Malaysia. This is the first state visit to Malaysia by Hu Jintao as Chinese president as well as the first visit to the country by a Chinese president in 15 years. |
