On November 7, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Amr Moussa at the Headquarters of the LAS in Cairo. Wen appreciated Moussa for actively promoting friendly relations between the LAS and China. Wen said the Arab world is an important force in the world. Both China and Arab countries are developing nations. "Under the current international political and economic circumstances which are undergoing profound readjustments and changes, it is in the interests of both China and the Arab countries to strengthen cooperation which contributes to world peace, stability and development," the Chinese premier said. Wen said that China is willing to work with the Arab League and Arab countries to build the China-Arab Cooperation Forum into a more firm and effective platform, enrich the connotation of bilateral partnership and push China-Arab friendly cooperative relations for in-depth development and common progress. Moussa said Premier Wen's visit to the LAS headquarters and delivering of an important speech fully shows the great importance that the Chinese government and people attach to the LAS and Arab nations, as well as the friendly feelings held by the Chinese side towards the Arab side. The LAS and Arab states appreciate China's consistent support for the righteous cause of the Arab people and they also resolutely support China's efforts for national unity and territorial integrity. Under the new situation, the Arab side hopes to advance the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, enhance bilateral all-round cooperation and jointly commit to safeguarding world and regional peace, stability and development. |
