On October 29, 2009, Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the meeting of Senior Officials' Committee (SOC) of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) held in Beijing International Club Hotel. Representatives of CICA member states and observer states and CICA Secretariat officials were present at the meeting.
Wang spoke highly of CICA's important role of promoting peace, stability and development in Asia and the host country Kazakhstan's relentless efforts of advancing the development of CICA. He reiterated that China, as a responsible member of the Conference, will support the CICA as always. He pointed out that to achieve lasting peace and common prosperity in Asia serves the common interest of and requires the concerted efforts from all the Asian countries. They should adhere to the new security concept featured by mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and collaboration and jointly cope with new threats and challenges; push forward common and sustainable development and participate in the regional economic cooperation in a more active and open manner; promote the exchanges among different civilizations and encourage their people to respect each other and recognize diversified cultural traditions, social systems and values; build the ecological civilization and coordinate environmental protection with economic and social progress. China is committed to joining hands with other member states to build a harmonious Asia enjoying peace, stability, development and prosperity in line with the purpose and principles of CICA.
Addressing the meeting, participants first of all extended congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and gratitude to the Chinese side for its efforts of holding the CICA SOC meeting. They believe CICA is an effective mechanism of promoting peace, security and stability in Asia and support CICA in playing a bigger role of enhancing mutual trust and consensus and expanding exchanges and cooperation among its member states. |
