Yang Jiechi Holds Telephone Conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
2009/10/24

On the evening of October 23, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Yang hailed the recent sound momentum of development for China-U.S. relations. Chinese President Hu Jintao held a successful meeting with President Obama in New York in September, reaching new important consensus on pushing forward the positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship in the 21st century. The two heads of state exchanged in-depth views on climate change and other issues in their phone talks several days ago, charting the course for bilateral cooperation in relevant areas. Both sides have made new progress in coordination and cooperation in a wide range of bilateral fields and on major international and regional issues. "China will work along with the U.S. side to seriously implement the consensus reached between the heads of state, and enhance dialogue, exchange and cooperation," Yang said.

Clinton, in her turn, described President Obama’s state visit to China in November as a big event in China-U.S. relations. She hoped that both sides will work together to make sound preparations to ensure the visit a success so as to inject new vitality into the development of bilateral ties in the new period.

Clinton said her country will strive to promote the positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship with China, which conforms to the two countries' interests. President Obama looks forward to his China visit, said the secretary of state, adding that the U.S. is ready to maintain communication and cooperation with China in this regard and believes it will be a fruitful and successful trip.

The two sides also discussed climate change and the Korean Peninsula and Iranian nuclear issues.
