British Prime Minister Brown Meets with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo
2009/10/20

On October 19, 2009, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown met with visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo at 10 Downing Street in London.

Brown said Britain-China relations are intensifying, which the British side is deeply satisfied with. Britain attaches great importance to bilateral ties and remains committed to improving strategic partnership with China and deepening cooperation in dealing with the financial crisis, climate change as well as free trade and nuclear nonproliferation. Britain will strictly abide by the one-China policy.

Brown said his country highly appraised China's important status and responsible role in international affairs and praised China's contribution to maintaining domestic economic growth and promoting global economic recovery despite the impact of the financial crisis.

Dai said both sides have maintained close high-level contacts, continuously improved exchange mechanisms and achieved fruitful results of cooperation in recent years. China and Britain have also conducted sound coordination and cooperation in addressing the financial crisis.

Under the new international situation, China is willing to work together with Britain to deepen strategic dialogue and communication and to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation and exchange in various bilateral fields, said Dai. He hoped both sides will enhance coordination in regional and international affairs, properly address sensitive issues, respect each other's core concerns and push bilateral ties to move forward in a smooth and sound way.
