| Hu Jintao Meets with Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan | ||

On the afternoon of October 14, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao met at the Great Hall of the People with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov and Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyaev, who are here for the eighth prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, congratulating them on the success of the meeting. During the meeting, Hu emphasized that currently the international situation remains complex and volatile, the international pattern is undergoing profound adjustments and the unstable and uncertain factors affecting this region's security and development are increasing. Further development and cooperation of SCO is essential not only to overcoming the impact of the global financial crisis and promoting global economic recovery, but also to properly handling regional hotspot issues and effectively coping with various global challenges. Therefore, all member states should take a long-term perspective to view SCO's construction and development, consolidate good-neighborliness and mutual trust and strengthen solidarity and cooperation with perseverance. They should take part in regional economic cooperation within the SCO framework with a more open attitude and expand trade and investment among them to achieve mutual benefit and common development. They should enhance SCO's ties with its observer nations, dialogue partners, as well as other friendly countries and international organizations in a broader vision to jointly safeguard and promote world peace, stability and development. The prime ministers extended the warmest congratulation to Hu on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and expressed satisfaction with the success of the prime ministers' meeting. They highly praised the important contributions China made to pushing for SCO's construction and development, agreeing that with the joint efforts of all member states, the SCO cooperation has achieved substantive results. All member states attach great importance to pragmatic cooperation within the SCO framework and are ready to further enhance cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, infrastructure, as well as humanities, health, education, science and culture. They pledged to make concerted efforts to fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, safeguard international and regional security and stability and push for the development of the SCO. State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the meeting. |
