Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya Meets with Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Islamov

On October 12, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya met with visiting Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Islamov, exchanging views on bilateral relations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other issues.

Wang made positive comments on China-Uzbekistan relations. Wang said China is ready to further expand pragmatic cooperation with Uzbekistan to achieve mutual benefits. He appreciated Uzbekistan's efforts as SCO president to actively work out measures for accelerated development of the SCO. He hoped that both sides will jointly do well in relevant work to ensure fruitful outcome from the Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO Member States to be held in Beijing on October 14 and push for the sound and steady development of the SCO.

Islamov congratulated the Chinese side on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, reaffirming that Uzbekistan attaches great importance to ties with China, resolutely adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's position on the issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet. He noted that his country will try its best to cooperate with China in well holding the Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO Member States and push bilateral coordination within the bilateral framework and in the SCO to a higher level.
