On October 9, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun and visiting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda James Mugume held political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries. Zhai made positive comments on China-Uganda relations and the cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries and thanked for the Ugandan government's adherence to the one-China policy and precious support to China on the major issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet. Zhai said China is ready to work with Uganda to continue consolidating the traditional friendship, deepening pragmatic cooperation and pushing bilateral ties for in-depth, wide-ranging development. Mugume said China is a sincere friend and development partner of Uganda. Uganda thanks for China's long-standing support for Uganda's economic and social development and hopes to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with China in all areas. Both sides also exchanged views on issues including the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the reform of the UN Security Council, climate change, the situation in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa. |
