On September 18, 2009, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong Il met with Dai Bingguo, Chinese state councilor and special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao in Pyongyang. In a letter delivered by Dai to Kim, President Hu said that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have attached great importance to the relationship between China and the DPRK. Hu said that China has always considered China-DPRK friendship the treasure of the two parties, two countries and the two peoples. In the spirit of carrying forward the tradition, facing to the future, developing the good-neighborly friendship and strengthening cooperation, China is ready to consolidate and develop the friendly relations between the two countries, he added. As a close neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, China attaches great importance to the situation on the Peninsula. It is China's consistent goal to realize denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and safeguard and promote peace, stability and development of the Peninsula and Northeast Asia at large, said the Chinese president, adding that China is ready to spare no effort in working with the DPRK to realize such goals. Kim thanked the Chinese president for sending the envoy to visit the DPRK and bring him the letter and asked Dai to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to Hu. The Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK people are proud of China's great success in the past 60 years and wish the Chinese people greater achievements in pursuing the scientific development and building a harmonious society under the leadership of the Communist Party, Kim said. The DPRK will continue to firmly support China in its efforts to safeguard state sovereignty and security, he added. The traditional friendship, initiated and fostered by the older generation of leaders of the two countries, is indissoluble, Kim said. The bilateral ties have withstood various tests and have all along been developing on the right course, he said. The Workers' Party of Korea, the DPRK government and people have the will and determination to inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship with China. He expressed the hope that the two countries will take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the Year of China-DPRK Friendship as a new starting point to strengthen high-level contacts and cooperation in every field and develop bilateral friendly relations. On the DPRK's position on the Korean Peninsula situation and the Korean nuclear issues, Kim said that the DPRK insists on denuclearization and tries to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The DPRK is willing to solve problems through bilateral and multilateral talks, he added. Dai said he wishes the DPRK more new accomplishments in national development under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea with Kim Jong Il as general secretary. Dai said the DPRK-China traditional friendship has been developing continuously under the personal care of several generations of leaders of the two countries and with the joint efforts of both peoples. China is ready to continue joint efforts with the DPRK to maintain high-level contacts and deepen exchanges and cooperation on economy, trade and humanities, so that the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between both countries will advance with the times and flourish continuously. China is willing to promote denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula with joint efforts of involved parties including the DPRK, Dai said. Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Liu Xiaoming and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei, Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Fu Ziying, Deputy Director of the CPC Central Foreign Affairs Office Qiu Yuanping and Assistant Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Guo Yezhou attended the meeting. |
