On June 16, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Myanmar State Peace and Development Council Vice-Chairman Maung Aye in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai. Hailing the 60-year diplomatic relationship, Wen said the relations between the two nations have been developing continuously with positive results of exchanges and cooperation in all areas. The two countries enjoyed traditional friendship and broad common interests. China is ready to work with Myanmar to deepen good-neighborly and friendly relations and expand mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. China hopes that Myanmar will steadily advance its domestic democratic process, achieve national reconciliation, safeguard state stability and promote economic growth, said Wen. Maung Aye said China and Myanmar enjoy the profound traditional Paukphaw friendship and bilateral good-neighborly and friendly cooperation has been deepening with the joint efforts of both sides. He sincerely thanked for China's long-standing disinterested assistance to Myanmar's economic and social development. The government of Myanmar attaches importance to ties with China and the current visit reflects the aspiration of the Myanmar government and people to develop friendly cooperative relations with China. Myanmar is ready to work with China to push forward bilateral ties, he said. Maung Aye also reaffirmed his country's firm adherence to the one-China policy. |
