On August 27, 2008, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov at the State Guesthouse in Tajikistan, exchanging views mainly on the enhancement of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Sino-Tajik economic and trade cooperation is progressing in an all-round way and the work of the Sino-Tajik Economic and Trade Mixed Committee is going on a smooth track, playing an important roles in directing and coordinating such work, said President Hu. Hu suggested both sides focus efforts in the following four aspects. First, ensure the quality and timely completion of major cooperation projects. The Chinese president suggested that the two sides continue working to facilitate the smooth implementation of large cooperation projects. Second, expand cooperation in the field of mineral resources exploitation. China supports its companies to carry out investment and business in Tajikistan. Third, strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector. Hu urged both sides to boost cooperation on agricultural production, processing and soil melioration. The Chinese leader offered to help Tajikistan by establishing agricultural technology demonstration centers and training experts. Fourth, improve the investment and business environment to facilitate trade investment. For his part, Akilov hailed the support and assistance offered by China since his country's independence, which, he said, has promoted Tajikistan's economic growth and improved people's livelihood. Cooperation in major projects involving transportation and electricity facilities was progressing well, with some of these already becoming important parts of the regional infrastructure system in Central Asia. Tajikistan hopes to enhance cooperation with China in railway and road construction, mineral resources exploration and personnel training, Akilov said, vowing to intensify efforts to improve the investment environment in his country. On the afternoon of the same day, Hu called on the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan and representatives from Chinese-funded institutions. Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo attended the above activities. |
