Chinese President Ends Visit to ROK, Leaving for Tajikistan

On August 26, 2008, Chinese President Hu Jintao concluded his state visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK), leaving the ROK capital of Seoul for Tajikistan, where he will pay a state visit and attend the eighth annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

On August 25, President Hu and his ROK counterpart Lee Myung-bak held talks. The two heads of state exchanged in-depth views on bilateral ties and major international and regional issues and reached broad consensus. Both sides agreed to work together to well implement relevant consensus and push forward China-ROK ties in an all-round manner.

During his visit, the Chinese leader also met with other ROK leaders and took part in a series of important activities. The two sides signed a number of cooperation documents on energy-conservation, science and technology, economy and trade, education and the World Expo. Both sides also issued a joint communiqué.

President Hu arrived in Seoul on August 25 on the first leg of his three-nation tour. He will fly to Dushanbe for a state visit to Tajikistan and attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, following which he will pay a state visit to Turkmenistan.
