China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation Presents the Plaque of "Governance for the People" to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
2004/11/26

On November 26, 2004, Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei received the plaque of "Governance for the People" presented by China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation at the office building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vice General Manager Liu Qitao of the China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation said that in the past October two engineers of the Corporation working for the Gomal Zam hydropower project in Pakistan were kidnapped. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related government agencies made great efforts to resolve the incident, fully demonstrating the principle of "building the party for the interests of the people and governing for the people" and the spirit of "putting people first" in Chinese foreign policy. The China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation and its staffs sincerely thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its contributions to protecting the personal safety of its employees working in Pakistan.

Vice Minister Wu Dawei expressed gratitude to the staffs of the China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation for their trust and understanding of and support for the Ministry. He said that President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and other leaders of the Party and the State all paid high attention to the kidnapping of the technicians of the Corporation and instructed on many occasions the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related domestic agencies to adopt all necessary measures and do their utmost to rescue the hostages and appropriately handle the aftermath. Over a dozen of domestic agencies were involved in the rescue efforts, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is only one of them. What the staffs of the China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation should feel is the cordial care of the Party and the government demonstrated by the settlement of the incident. Vice Minister Wu also noted that recently at the Informal APEC Summit President Hu Jintao put forward the proposal of promoting win-win cooperation and realizing sustainable development, thus raising new requirements for expanding China's foreign economic cooperation. "Inviting to China" and "going abroad" are important means to that end, but they will also bring about various risks and challenges. We hope that the staffs of China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Group Corporation will continue carrying on the spirit of working hard and daring to undertake heavy tasks and make new contributions to the development of the export-oriented economy of China.
