Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco Hosts68th National Day Reception

Consul General Luo Linquan hosted a reception in celebration of the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China at Hilton San Francisco Union Square on September 28th, 2017.

The reception was attended by California Governor Jerry Brown ,Mayor of San Francisco Ed Lee, California State Senator Scott Wiener, Mayor of Dublin David Haubert, Mayor of Saratoga Emily Lo, leaders of Chinese and American business communities, representatives from local Chinese American communities and Chinese Students and Scholars Associations, along with friends from various sectors, making a total of more than 1000 guests.

In his remarks, Consul General Luo pointed out that in the past year, under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, China secured sustained, healthy economic and social development, and the 13th Five-Year Plan got off to a great start. In 2016, China's GDP reached 74 trillion RMB (11 trillion US dollars), which accounted for 15% of the world total. China remains the second largest economy in the world. In the first half of 2017, with deepening of economic structural adjustment, China's economy has registered a stable performance with good momentum for growth. With a GDP growth of 6.9% compared to the same period last year, China regains its leading position in economic growth among major economies.

Consul General Luo said the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will convene on October 18 in Beijing. This is a key meeting at a crucial time for the development of socialism with Chinese Characteristics. It also comes when China's endeavor to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way has entered a decisive stage. The meeting will put forward comprehensive, strategic and foresighted guidelines on China's future development and foreign relations.

Consul General Luo said with joint efforts from the governments and peoples of both countries, the China-US relationship has made steady progress this year. Four high-level dialogue mechanisms have been established, including diplomatic and security dialogue, comprehensive economic dialogue, law-enforcement and cyber-security dialogue, as well as social and cultural dialogue. Three mechanisms have hold their first round of dialogue except the 3rd one.Sub-national cooperation is one of the most dynamic aspects in China-US ties. The San Francisco consular district, that is the four and half states Chinese Consulate General covers, happens to be the leader in this regard. California and Washington remain respectively the NO. 1 US state of importer from China and the NO. 1 exporter to China. The consular district is also the No. 1 destination in the US for Chinese tourists and students.In the coming year, the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco will be ready to further communicate and cooperate with all friends in our consular district, so as to make joint efforts for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and to inject more positive energy to the sustained and healthy development of China-US relations.

Governor Browns said that the relationship between the US and China has been much better compared with the level when the two countries established diplomatic relationship. At sub-national level, California has good relation with Chinese cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzheng. California is willing to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, and in fact, some local enterprises have participated in it. California will continue to play a leading role in the cooperation between the two countries.

Mayor Lee said, California and San Francisco attach great importance to the economic cooperation with China. Now, China's investment in San Francisco has reached $5 billion. The cooperation between China and San Francisco is not limited to business, but has already expanded to the field of education, science and culture. He also announced October 1,2017 as "Chinese-American Friendship and Heritage Day" in San Francisco.

Governor of Washington State Jay Inslee and Governor of Alaska Bill Walker also warmly congratulated the Chinese people on the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China by video.

Videos introducing the work by the Consulate General in 2017 was played and Top 10 Chinese Songs voted by the Consulate General's Facebook fans were unveiled during the reception. Wonderful art performance drew big applause from the audience. All guests are confident in China's future and the development of Sino-US relationship. The reception also drew more than 10 media to report.
