Consul General Luo Linquan Hosts New Year Reception for Scholars of Stanford University

On January 11, 2017, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco Luo Linquan hosted a new year reception for well-known scholars of Stanford University. The guests included Gi-Wook Shin (Director of Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center), Jun Uchida (Director of East Asian Studies Center), Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry (former US Ambassador to Afghanistan, senior fellow), Nicholas Hope(Director of International Development), James Fishkin (Director of the Center for Deliberative Democracy), Richard Zare (Chair of the Chemistry Department), Cui Yi (professor of Science and Engineering Department) and 23 other outstanding scholars in many fields.

                                                                                

Luo extended his New Year greetings to all and said that the year of 2016 witnessed a series of achievements in Sino-US relationship. With the boost of China-US Tourism Year, our bilateral trade, two-way investment and total number of personnel exchanges all hit a record high. President Xi Jinping met with President Obama three times, respectively at Washington Nuclear Summit, G20 Hangzhou Summit and APEC Lima Summit. Their close strategic communication had helped increase trust and reduce misunderstandings. President Xi also had a telephone conversation with President-elect Donald Trump shortly after the election. They agreed to keep close contact and meet at an early date to have timely exchange of views on bilateral ties and other issues of common concern. We wish that under the leadership of the Heads of State of our two countries, our bilateral relations could enjoy a smooth transition and move forward along the right direction.In the new year, Chinese Consulate General will spare no efforts in providing efficient services as well as advancing the all-round friendly cooperation between China and the U.S. We look forward to cooperating with you and having your stronger support and assistance.

                                                                                 

Director Shin and Director Uchida respectively in their remarks, expressed appreciation to Consul General for hosting such an event, providing a platform for both sides to exchange views and ideas. They also expressed willingness to further promote academic exchanges between Stanford and China.
