On August 3, 2019, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco Wang Donghua hosted a reception in his residence in honor of some of the mayors of Bay Area cities who have visited China. More than 50 people, including mayors, city councilors, scholars and businessman, attended the reception. Consul General Wang said "this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. Over the past 40 years, China-US relations have achieved historical developments despite ups and downs, and have delivered enormous benefits to our two peoples, making important contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity."

He stressed that it's normal to have differences between China and the United States. Two brothers can not be agree with each other completely, and five fingers are not the same length. However, a good relationship benefits both sides, while confrontation does harm to both, and cooperation is the only right choice. Cooperation between China and California has reached an unparalleled achievement. If there is no tariff problem, the cooperation would be even greater.

Wang also expressed Chinese Consulate General's willingness to work together with people from all over California to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between California and China, for the long-term healthy and sound development of China-US relations, and for the ever-lasting friendship between the two peoples.
