2014/11/13

On November 10, Consul General and Mrs. Yuan Nansheng held a farewell reception in their residence. San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu, Supervisor Norman Yee and representatives of foreign missions as well as Bay area friends from all works of life which amounted to over 200 people were present.

In his farewell speech, Consul General Yuan recalled quite a few historical moments in China and China-U.S. relations during his post in San Francisco. "The exchanges and cooperation between China and our consular area have gained momentum in the past one and a half years", Yuan said, "our political, economic and people-to-people ties are closer than ever, adding positive energy to the building of a new model of major country relationship between China and the U.S.". He expressed his hope that friends present could continue to contribute to China-US mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.

Mayor Lee remarked that China-US relationship is the most important in the world, and San Francisco-China cooperation has contributed a lot to this relationship. He thanked Consul General Yuan for his excellent service to the people of San Francisco, especially his effort to launch more direct flights to China, adding fuel to economy and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
