Consulate Celebrates Its Facebook Page's One Year Anniversary

On August 23, 2014, the Chinese Consulate-General in San Francisco and Facebook Inc. co-hosted an open-house event, marking the 1st anniversary of launching the consulate's Facebook page.


"About a month ago, our Facebook page reached a small milestone of 10,000 fans. This humble accomplishment reflects the interest that the American people have in China," Consul General Yuan Nansheng said during his welcoming remarks. "Our dedicated fans serve as building blocks in our People-to-People engagement that makes our two countries more connected and get to know each other better".

Elliot Schrage, Facebook's Vice-President of Global Communications and Public Policy commended the Consulate's Facebook page: "The team of the Chinese consulate in San Francisco has generated more likes and engagement for their Facebook page than any other consulate that I am aware of in San Francisco. Even though (the page of ) the consulate is at its early stages, it is a leader in helping people understand culture, learn information, share ideas and build relationships."

He announced that the China's San Francisco Consulate's Facebook page would be the first consulate page officially verified by Facebook Inc.


Eric Mar who represents San Francisco Board of Supervisors sent a Certificate of Honor extending highest commendation and appreciation for the Consulate's efforts in "promoting Chinese tradition, history, culture and current events through Facebook", "strengthening Sino-American relations", and " dedicated service to the overseas Chinese community."

Highlights of the event included a birthday cake-cutting ceremony, dumpling-making demonstration and raffle draws. The Fans arranged the dumplings in the shape of Facebook Iconic 'Thumbs Up' ("Like" button).

The event was also attended by the Consulate Section Chiefs, representatives from Facebook Inc., PR firms, dedicated fans of the Facebook page and diplomats from the local Consular Corps.
